The Favilla Lab

We are dedicated to improving acute stroke care by leveraging innovative bedside imaging modalities to optimize cerebral hemodynamics

Areas of Research

Optical CBF Monitoring During EVT

Non-invasive optical imaging techniques monitor CBF during EVT with the goal of refining CBF as a treatment target while also differentiating recanalization from microvascular reperfusion.

CBF after LVAD Implantation

The impact of LVAD implantation on cerebral hemodynamics is evaluated via (1) serial monitoring of CBF and (2) monitoring during pump speed titration.

LVO Detection with Bedside Optical Imaging

CBF waveforms are assessed by SCOS in patients with suspected stroke in order to differentiate LVO patients from non-LVO patients. This approach may bolster prehospital stroke triage.

Cognitive outcomes after LVAD Implantation

Serial neuroimaging and cognitive assessment characterizes the trajectory of cognition and brain atrophy after LVAD implantation.

Personalized Video-Based Stroke Education

In a multi-center trial, we are evaluating a personalized video-based platform that targets key aspects of stroke education while promoting  re-engagement to ensure a durable effect.

Quantitative Angiofor Microvascular Dynamics

Quantitative angiography is used to develop microvascular transit time as a both an imaging biomarker and a treatment target.
